Birding at Emily Moon

Earlier this year, BirdLife South Africa officially certified Emily Moon as a “Birder Friendly Establishment”, and in April we held our very first birding weekend. Emily Moon’s breathtaking views overlooking the Bitou wetland and river are home to over 150 species of birds, with the Plettenberg Bay area offering birdlife within a count of almost 300 different species.

Over the weekend, birders explored Plett’s estuaries, forests, grasslands, fynbos, thickets and rivers, and saw a total of 122 different birds.

We received incredible feedback from our birders, and plan to hold a Birding and Nature Weekend in November when birdlife in the area is at its peak.

A big thank you to birder, nature lover, and budding photographer, Nina Robertson, for these beautiful images.

“We had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed all aspects – the birding was tremendous, the hotel and restaurant were superb – the staff were all SO helpful and pleasant. We would love to come back for another birding weekend.” – Ian Robertson
