Kelly and Tyrone, along with Nicky M Photography, visited Emily Moon for a pre-elopement shoot the day before they said “I do!”. The next morning the couple got ready at our lodge before heading into the Tsitsikamma Forest to elope!
Many of you enjoyed the culinary talents and tastes of our local food destinations and chefs during Plett on a Platter.
At Emily Moon we revealed some of our kitchen secrets, inviting the public to take part in an exceptional two-course dining experience, as our head chef Ruaan van der Merwe and manager Alex Olivier demonstrated some of Emily’s signature dishes prior to plating the meal.
February 2016 will mark Alex and Candice Olivier’s two-year anniversary managing Emily Moon. This dynamic duo has taken our lodge to new and exciting heights. What you may not know is that despite his managerial role, Alex is an absolute foodie and more often than not can be found in the kitchen, joining forces with our chef team to whip up new and exciting dishes for our daily, changing dinner menu.
The River House is a collector’s paradise, eclectically decorated with African art, found objects and furniture from around the globe. This spacious family home has all the luxurious amenities of the Emily Moon River Lodge suites, with 5 main bedrooms, 2 loft bedrooms for kids and 5 bathrooms and 4 outdoor showers.
Discover the beauty of the Garden Route!
During the summertime, the Garden Route shows off more than ever! Its diverse landscape blossoms anew, drawing the attention of nature lovers as well as exciting and uncommon birds such as the Narina Trogon, Cape Siskin, Victorin’s Warbler, Half-collared Kingfisher and Knysna Woodpecker. The Garden Route is home to over 300 species of birds with close to 30 species endemic to Southern African.
Earlier this year, BirdLife South Africa officially certified Emily Moon as a “Birder Friendly Establishment”, and in April we held our very first birding weekend. Emily Moon’s breathtaking views overlooking the Bitou wetland and river are home to over 150 species of birds, with the Plettenberg Bay area offering birdlife within a count of almost 300 different species.
Over the weekend, birders explored Plett’s estuaries, forests, grasslands, fynbos, thickets and rivers, and saw a total of 122 different birds.
Winter in Plettenberg Bay is the best-kept secret – July is actually our driest month. Leo and Wayne got married on a clear and sunny winter’s afternoon. For African art curator/vintage collector Leo, and quantity surveyor/vinyl collector Wayne, Emily Moon was a blend of everything they loved.
“It is the best example of how to combine different styles, architectural pieces and memories from different travel destinations and cultures to create a space that feels like someone’s beautiful holiday villa, rather than a cold formal hotel or wedding venue. Emily Moon’s staff made us feel like family, and we couldn’t stop staring at the amazing river views.” - Leo
Leo never dreamt of wearing a white wedding dress. Instead, with the help of Cape Town designer, Kobus Dippenaar, she decided on a classic, vintage cut in a daring, gold sequin fabric. Her bouquet was an eclectic mix of fresh garden flowers and succulents.
We hope you enjoy W + L’s wedding story as much as we did!

One of the rarest inhabitants, the Sooty Falcon, has returned to Emily Moon during this time for the last four years. To watch the Sooty Falcon perched in his favourite tree, or hunting in the wetlands below is a sighting of a lifetime.
